Ask the Pastor

Wouldn’t it be helpful and less stressful if we had someone to help us and guide us with the decisions we have to make every day? If we listened to their advice, we would make less mistakes and not get in trouble so often.

The story is told about a teenager who lived in a city and was on his way to work one morning. He decided to take a new, different path, thinking it would save time. But the streets were unfamiliar and without realizing it, he went through an intersection without seeing the “stop” sign. Within seconds he was stopped by a police officer who reminded him about observing street signs. Then he handed the young man a ticket that cost him a week’s wages at work.

What if this teenager had had a guide to tell him how to maneuver the streets and warn him of the street signs? He would have been so much better off.

We often travel unfamiliar paths and have to make hasty decisions that we’ve never had to make before. We need Someone who knows the way ahead of us. That Someone is the God of heaven. There is a chorus we often sing in Sunday School, “My God knows the way through the wilderness, all I have to do is follow.”

God has given us His guide Book, the Bible, to direct and instruct His children. Someone said B-I-B-L-E means ‘Bacic Instruction Book for Living on Earth.’ Psalm 37:23 says, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord; and he delighteth in his way.” Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.”

Psalm 119:130 says, “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding to the simple.” Psalm 119:133 says, “Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.”
